A Message from Bob Alexander, President
Alexander Ford proudly celebrates 50 years of unwavering dedication to its customers, employees, and the Karnes County community. Since purchasing Buckaloo Ford on January 1, 1975, when a Ford Elite sold for $5,000, the dealership has become a cornerstone of the region's automotive industry, showcasing everything from classic cruisers to innovative SUVs. It’s a journey of evolution, resilience, and a love for cars and trucks that never goes out of style.
In 1973, Bob Alexander, then a Ford Motor Company employee, realized something profound: he preferred steering the ship over swabbing the deck. Armed with a lifelong passion for taking things apart and putting them back together (usually better than he found them), Bob turned a dream into reality by relinquishing his career with Ford Motor Company, moving from Houston to Kenedy and going to work at the local Ford-Mercury dealership, Buckaloo, Inc. On Jan. 1, 1975, with Mr. Buckaloo carrying the loan, Bob purchased Buckaloo, Inc and changed the name of the dealership to Alexander Ford-Mercury. In August of that year, Bob hired Yvonne as an Office Assistant, offering a jaw-dropping $1.60 per hour. Apparently, she found the deal irresistible—not only did she stick around, but she also married Bob! Fifty years later, that "investment" has paid dividends, proving that good leadership—much like good engineering—is all about building something sturdy, forward-thinking, and meant to last.
Over the years, Alexander Ford has driven through some fascinating stretches of automotive history. The team has welcomed the arrival, departure, and sometimes return of iconic models like the Bronco, the Ranger, and the Taurus. Meanwhile, less-enduring designs (we’re looking at you, Pinto) taught everyone some important lessons about innovation—and humor. Yet through it all, Alexander Ford kept moving forward, offering Karnes County the latest in vehicles and unmatched service with a smile.
But Alexander Ford is more than just a dealership; it’s a vital piece of the community's fabric. Over the years, it has provided meaningful employment to over 156 individuals, whose dedication and professionalism helped shape the dealership's sterling reputation. Beyond the showroom, Alexander Ford has consistently given back through charitable initiatives and local partnerships, a legacy of generosity as robust as its automotive offerings.
This dealership has been my life. My wife, Yvonne and I work together here every day. We raised our kids in this store and taught them work ethic, honesty, and integrity. I thank the Good Lord every day that I can still do my job after 50 years and pray that I will be able to do the job for many years to come. Yvonne and I sincerely thank our customers and employees for their continued loyal support. We consider ourselves incredibly lucky to make a living doing something we truly enjoy doing. I sincerely thank our customers and employees for their continued support.
